Central banker says very worried by data leaks from banks

MOSCOW, Nov 6 (PRIME) -- The Russian central bank will boost oversight over banks’ cybersecurity in the wake of massive client data leaks, Chairwoman Elvira Nabiullina said in a speech at the Federation Council, parliament’s supreme chamber, on Wednesday.

“We have completed 109 checks of financial organizations on the matter of cybersecurity since the start of the year, found 730 violations, and almost 80% of these violations were to some extent connected with information protection in the banks. We will continue to boost oversight, stimulate banks to approach the issues of cybersecurity more thoroughly,” Nabiullina said.

“We understand perfectly well that cyber risks are the underside of technological development. Data leaks in banks were a buzz word over the last few months, this is surely very worrying for us as well.”
